Why can't I connect?

One of the most common causes of problems while trying to watch our library is weak or intermittent Internet connectivity.  Frequent rebuffering or loading, problems starting the CuriosityStream application, error messages stating "Cannot Connect to the Internet" or trouble starting playback of a documentary or series episode when you're trying to stream on your device generally indicates a slow or interrupted Internet connection.

If you encounter an error message that looks like one of the messages below:

Sorry, we are unable to reach the CuriosityStream service. Please try again later.

Cannot Connect to CuriosityStream

Cannot reach CuriosityStream.com

CuriosityStream is Not Available

CuriosityStream is Unavailable

Unable to Connect to CuriosityStream

Android Error: Connection Failed

You may be experiencing an Internet connectivity problem that is keeping you from streaming.  These error messages sometimes are accompanied by an error code beginning with UI, AIP, or NW. To resolve this error, try the steps below.

If the steps above do not resolve your issue, you may be on a plan that does not match up with the recommended broadband connection speed for streaming videos.

  • 0.5 Megabits per second - Required broadband connection speed
  • 1.5 Megabits per second - Recommended broadband connection speed
  • 3.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for SD quality
  • 5.0 Megabits per second - Recommended for HD quality
  • 25 Megabits per second - Recommended for Ultra HD or 4K quality
